What is Virtual Places?

Tired of reading lines after lines of text and calling it "getting together with friends"? VP is a chat program that allows more personable interaction. Each person uses an Avatar to represent themselves on your screen. When you are chatting, the text is actually shown in a bubble above their picture and in the chat window pane like your average chat. Also, Gestures are used to spice up the conversation and usually lighten the mood.
Also this program allows you to make any website into a chatroom. Imagine your web browser (Internet Explorer or Netscape) with chat capabilities built right into it. As long as there are other people on the site, you can chat with them. But don't think you have to search and search for people to talk with... VP has default chatrooms to choose from when you enter. This program is definitely a must-have.

___________
Gestures

Gestures are a combination of animation, sounds or pictures that convey ideas, thoughts and emotions while chatting in VP. Virtual Places comes with its own very cheesy and BORING gestures, so it's a good thing that VP users (like mYself) create their own. When someone plays one, the pictures are shown in a bubble above their avatar and a text line is shown in the chat window pane and always begin and end with parentheses:

Ex: (DoN't ToRTuRe YoURseLf, ThAt's mY JoB.)
Picture shown: Animation of Dom fem with whip-in-hand.
Sound heard: Woman saying "Don't torture yourself, that's my job"

However, if you don't have the gesture saved on your own computer you won't be able to hear or see the gesture except for the text line. Of course, you can always ask the person who played it to send it to you so you can view it or play it in the future.

Check out my gesture section to start adding to your gesture palette! Or check out my links section to download a gesture compiler and start making your own unique gestures!

Avatars

Avatars, also called avs, are the pictures that represent each person in the VP chat program. Avs can be moved around the room by clicking and dragging your mouse, and can link with other chatters. Also, by right-clicking on other avatars, you can find out info about the other chatters.
The VP program comes with default avatars that in most cases are clownish and most select to find or make new avs. So, many VP users have created websites to share their avs with other users (like mYLaGaMaNia). To create them, all that is needed is a graphics editor, like Paint Shop Pro, and a picture of your choice. Avatars are 48 pixels (Width) by 64 pixels (Height).

Tours

Tours are a unique component of Virtual Places. They allow you to bring your friends WITH you when you travel to different websites. Now you can chat and laugh while you surf the web!
Tours are also created by VP'ers, and I have created some of my own. If you would like to do the same, you can create them the same way as avatars, only they measure 144 X 48.
